CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - - Belmont University women's soccer earned a 0-0 draw against Southeast Missouri on the road, commanding both sides of the pitch to conclude non-conference play.
 
Belmont started out hot making several attacking runs and pressuring the Redhawks early. 

The Bruins distributed the ball well in the first half leading to several scoring opportunities while dominating possession.

Despite controlling the first half with eight shots, Belmont was unable to get one into the back of the net and the would go into the locker room tied 0-0  after 45 .

Southeast Missouri started off the second half with possession but the Bruin defense quickly took over possession mounting an attack run that nearly resulted in the first goal of the match before an offsides call was made in the 48th minute.

The Redhawks offense came out of the half looking to take control of the match but masterful defense from Lillie Tabor and the rest of Belmont's backfield held Southeast Missouri at bay, allowing the offense to continue to surge. 
 
The Bruins saw another scoring opportunity as Laken Whittington pinged a shot off the crossbar before offsides was called again before Belmont could shoot off the rebound.

The match became a back and forth as the second half went on but a few key saves from Greta Genie kept the match scoreless with less than 15 minutes left to play .

A very chippy finish saw three yellow cards and several fouls called late in the second half as both teams fought hard to break the scoreless tie.

Despite every effort from the Bruins including a corner kick in the last 10 seconds, the match concluded in a 0-0 draw.

Belmont's defense continues to shine this season as they conclude non-conference play. The Bruins held the Redhawks to nine shots with just three being on target that were all saved by Genie to earn a clean sheet.

The offense also looks very promising entering conference play. Despite coming away scoreless against Southeast Missouri, the Bruins governed possession for a majority of the match and taking 13 shots including three from Whittington to outshot their opponent for the fourth time this season.

The Bruins (1-3-4) return to action Sunday afternoon in their return to E.S. Rose Park to start conference play against UIC. Match time is set for 1 p.m. CT from E.S. Rose Park. The match will be broadcasted on ESPN+ and the ESPN app.
