HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Belmont University Men's Cross Country team earned a 9th place finish in a competitive landscape at the Southern Showcase in Huntsville, Alabama.Â
The Bruins faced off against major regional competitors and came out on top against Arkansas State, Western Carolina, and others.Â
Redshirt freshman
Charley Townsend led the Belmont team, placing 30th overall with a personal best time of 24:38.2. "I felt very smooth and I've been feeling very fit the last few weeks," says Townsend. "This is definitely the best I've felt in an 8K so far."
Townsend beat his previous best, which he set at last year's Southern Showcase, by 16 seconds. Senior
Drew Brill followed, also finishing under the 25-minute mark at 24.57.2.Â
Freshman
Liam Powers and sophomores
Max Malloy and
Jesiah Low rounded out Belmont's top five finishers. The team finished with a total of 267 points.
"All-in-all I think it was a good day for us to kind of see where everybody is. Charley obviously stepped up really well, his training's been great for us so I'm excited to see how he races in Indiana," says Head Coach
Jeff Langdon.
