CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - - Belmont University women's soccer came up short in a battle against The University of Northern Iowa 1-0 on the road on Sunday.
 
The Bruins and the Panthers went back and forth early as rain created a fast paced playing field. 

Neither team could fully combat the weather throughout the first half but that didn't stop Belmont from creating several scoring opportunities.

The Panthers would strike first however, as Ella Ubben found an opening well outside the box, placing a well struck shot just past the diving Greta Genie to put UNI up 1-0 in the 34th minute.

The Bruins began to take full advantage of the weather conditions as the first half ended playing quickly and generating a number of attacks to close out the first half.

The Bruins came out of the break looking to continue off the momentum they built up at the end of the first half and did with Katelyn Hnatek taking a shot within the first minute of the second half.
 
Belmont also did a great job generating set pieces with four corner kicks and five free kicks within the first 20 minutes of the second half.

The Bruins were given their best scoring opportunity of the afternoon in the 66th minute as Kaitlyn Elliot was able to put the ball into the back of the net however a foul was called and the goal was taken back even after the play was reviewed.

The Bruins continued to control the pace of the second half but were unable to punch in the equalizer entering the final ten minutes of the match.

Belmont gave themselves several more opportunities to tie things up late into the match but were unable to capitalize and would fall to UNI 1-0.

The Bruins outshot the Panthers 17 to 7 and generated 13 corner kicks in the match.

The Bruins (2-4-4) return to action Saturday night against Southeast Illinois. Match time is set for 6 p.m. CT from E.S. Rose Park. The match will be broadcasted on ESPN+ and the ESPN app.
