Max Wright served as the Director of Player Operations at Illinois State, where he led practice and camp planning, oversaw all aspects of team travel and logistics, managed the Redbirds’ budget, and assisted with fundraising and community engagement initiatives.
He also played a key role in player development, working closely with catchers as well as overseeing infield and outfield defensive work. In addition, Wright organized the program’s prospect and youth camps, helping grow the Redbirds’ presence in the community.
An Ontario, Canada native, Wright previously served as a Catching Instructor with the Toronto Mets Baseball Club, the nation’s premier amateur baseball program. There, he provided specialized instruction and life-skill development across multiple age groups. He also gained experience as a Hitting and Catching Instructor with the Hit Dog Baseball Club, a top player development organization based in Arizona.
Before beginning his coaching career, Wright played professionally in the San Franciso Giants from 2021 to 2023. During his tenure, he contributed to two championship-winning teams — the 2021 San Jose Giants (California League Champions) and the 2022 Eugene Emeralds (Northwest League Champions).
One of the most decorated catchers in Missouri Valley Conference history, Wright earned Academic All-America, ABCA All-Region, and First Team All-MVC honors at Indiana State University, where he helped the Sycamores reach two NCAA Tournaments and secure wins over Ohio State and Presbyterian.
Wright earned his bachelor's degree in recreation and sport management with honors from Indiana State in 2020 and completed coursework towards a master's degree in business administration at Illinois State.
