Matt Frederick is in his fourth year as director of sports performance at Belmont.

Frederick's impact on Belmont's student-athletes has been undeniable in his first his first three-plus years as head strength and conditioning coach. During his time in the Music City, the Bruins have benefited from Frederick's guidance in all aspects of physical conditioning. Through Frederick's workout plans, nutritional knowledge and dedication to student-athlete physical development, Belmont has excelled on the court, on the field, on the track and on the course.

The Bruins have enjoyed multiple Ohio Valley Conference regular season and tournament championships across many of Belmont's 17 sponsored varsity sports, in addition to both team and individual NCAA Tournament and NCAA Championship appearances, with Frederick's training. In its final year in the OVC in 2021-22, Belmont captured its first OVC Commissioner's Cup, which symbolizes overall athletic excellence in conference-sponsored championships.

With Frederick overseeing Belmont's sports performance, the Bruins look to continue their on-field and on-court success in the highly-competitve Missouri Valley Conference. 

Frederick brought a wealth of experience to Belmont, serving as the director of athletic performance at Gardner-Webb University before arriving in Nashville. While in Boiling Springs, North Carolina, Frederick oversaw 22 sports and 450 student-athletes.

Prior to Gardner-Webb, Frederick spent two years as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Mississippi College, working specifically with eight sports including men's and women's basketball.

The Birmingham, Alabama, native spent one year as a volunteer assistant with Auburn University strength and conditioning.

Frederick played baseball for two years at Bevill State Community College, before competing his final two years at Samford University.

He earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology from Samford in 2013 and a master's degree in exercise physiology from Mississippi College in 2016.

Frederick holds certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa).

Matt and his wife, Leah, have three children, RileyKate, Cruze and Ensley. They reside in Hendersonville.
