Volleyball Heads to Florida for Two Road Matches

NASHVILLE, Tenn.---The volleyball team will make its final road trip of the regular season as it heads to Florida to take on Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast in two conferences matches this weekend.

Belmont, currently fourth in the Atlantic Sun Conference standings, will look to clinch a spot in the conference tournament with wins this weekend. The Bruins are facing Stetson for the first time this season and will meet FGCU for the second time. Gulf Coast overcame a 2-0 deficit to upset Belmont in the Curb Event Center earlier this season. Saturday's meeting will be the match that counts in the conference tournament. The Bruins are 9-6 all-time against Stetson, but have won the last eight meetings against the Hatters. Belmont faces Stetson at 5 p.m. this evening in DeLand, Fla. The Bruins will then head to Fort Myers, Fla. to face Florida Gulf Coast at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

The Bruins are 5-2 in conference play and have won three straight matches, all in straight sets. After struggling through September, Belmont went 5-2 in October, including a 3-1 record at home. The three game win streak is the longest winning streak for the Bruins this season. In order to extend that streak, Belmont will need continued strong performances and their nationally ranked service game. The Bruins ranked sixth nationally this week in service aces per set and are first in the conference in that category. Belmont also boasts three of the league's top five servers: Kayla Albritton (second), Carly Frazier (fourth) and Jen Myer (fifth). Albritton and Frazier are also nationally ranked in aces per set. Albritton ranks inside the top 20 at No. 17 while Frazier checks in at No. 51. With 148 career aces, Albritton recently set the Atlantic Sun career ace record and earned conference Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career after a 29-kill weekend and setting the career record.

Up next for the Bruins is the final conference game of the season at Lipscomb. That match will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 9.
