Belmont Comeback Squashed by Jacksonville

April 1, 2010

Final Stats

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Embarking on their first conference road trip of 2010, the Belmont Bruins (4-25-0, 1-4-0) were set to face the Jacksonville Dolphins (21-11-0, 1-2-0) on Thursday night.  After trailing the Dolphins by three runs most of the game, the Bruins made a furious comeback to draw even in the top of the seventh inning.  In a game that looked destined for extra innings, Jacksonville quickly ended Belmont's hopes by adding one run in the bottom of the inning to take the victory by a score of 4-3.

Jacksonville got up early on Belmont after a triple drove in one run.  A wild pitch in the same inning, and an RBI single in the fourth inning gave the Dolphins a three run lead.

Jacksonville sat on their lead until the seventh inning before Belmont was able to break through.

Senior outfielder Brooke Babington (Johnston City, Ill.) kicked the scoring off with a two run double down the left line that drove in sophomore Cassie Bollin (Madison, Tenn.) and fellow senior Sara Bentley (Greenbrier, Tenn.).

Hannah Irwin (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) looked to be a hero after her single to center field drove in Brooke Babington for the game tying run.

The Bruins let the momentum slip, however, in the bottom of the inning when a wild pitch allowed a Dolphin runner to cross the plate for the game winning run.

This marked the first game of a scheduled double header.  Both teams will immediately take the field to square off once again.
