Bruins Drop First Matchup at Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Belmont Bruins (7-40-0) traveled to Evansville, Ind. to take on the Evansville Purple Aces (15-24-0) in a Thursday night double header. In the first game of the double header, the Purple Aces jumped on the Bruins early on their way to a 9-1 victory.

In the first inning of the game, Belmont gave up two home runs to immediately find themselves in a 2-0 hole. 

Belmont cut the lead in half in the third inning after a single up the middle by senior Brooke Babington (Johnston City, Ill.) scored sophomore Cassie Bollin (Madison, Tenn.) from second base.

Another homer in the third inning highlighted a five run inning for the Purple Aces, giving them an immediate response to Belmont's score. 

The Purple Aces put the game away in the fourth inning when an infield single and a sacrifice fly brought two runs in to put Evansville up by eight runs.

Needing to score a run in the fifth inning to extend the game, Belmont grounded into a double play with runners on first and third to end the game.

In the contest Belmont was out hit nine to five, and the Bruins committed one error to Evansville's none. 

The Bruins immediately turned around to play the second game of their scheduled double header.
