NASHVILLE, TENN. - - Despite its best
efforts, Belmont softball couldn't get anything brewing against
Lipscomb Wednesday, dropping an afternoon doubleheader to the
Bisons.
In game one, Belmont pitching ace freshman Devon
Schmidt (Greenbrier, Tenn.) went head-to-head against
Lipscomb star hurler Whitney Kiihnl.
Schmidt would provide the Bruins four and two-thirds
respectable innings before giving way to junior Julie
Harmon (Brentwood, Tenn.)
However, offense would be hard to come by against Kiihnl,
who surrendered a lone hit to sophomore Ashley
Byers (Westerville, Ohio) in earning a 28th victory in 30
decisions this season.
In game two, Belmont produced four hits in the first three
innings, but were unable to bring any base runners home. However,
in the bottom of the fourth, a leadoff single from junior Ashley
Smith (Helena, Ala.) and a double from Harmon allowed
Belmont to get on the board via a sacrifice fly from senior Sara
Bentley (Springfield, Tenn.)
Belmont had seven hits in total in game two, including
2-for-2 from junior Kelley
Cash (Hudson, Ohio).
The Bruins (10-42, 3-15) close regular season play
Saturday at Campbell.
