NASHVILLE, Tenn.- - After opening the 2010 season at home with
the Belmont Invitational, the Bruins (2-1,0-0) will travel to
Cookeville, Tenn., Tuesday night to take on Tennessee Tech (0-3,
0-0) in a non-conference match. First serve for the match is set
for 7 p.m.
Belmont will look to build on its 2-1 record against a Tennessee
Tech that went 0-3 in the opening weekend. Overall, the Bruins are
3-8 against the Golden Eagles, losing the last match in a 0-3
decision in Cookeville. Belmont will need strong performances from
seniors Kayla
Albritton and Tara Blood,
as well as solid output from junior Maggie
Johnson, a 2010 preseason All-Conference pick. Albritton is the
team co-leader in kills with 36 and turned in a good all-around
performance at the Belmont Invitational en route to earning
all-tournament honors. The senior from Gainesville, Fla., also
turned in a league-leading seven service aces to go along with her
team-high .354 hitting percentage. Blood (Boise, Idaho) joined
Albritton on the All-Tournament team after leading the Bruins with
14 blocks over the weekend, including six against Jacksonville
State in the final match of the Invitational.
A win Tuesday night would be career victory number 300 for Head
Coach Deane Webb. Webb is already the winningest coach in school
history with 137 wins during his tenure with the Bruins, and has
earned Atlantic Sun Coach of the Year honors twice (2004, 2006). He
also led Belmont to five consecutive 20-win seasons between
2004-2008, helping the Bruins join an elite club of teams with
consecutive 20-win seasons. With Webb at the helm, Belmont has
claimed the conference title twice (2006 and 2008), and made the
NCAA Tournament twice.
