NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont heads to Chattanooga, Tenn., for
the Country Inn & Suites Invitational Friday, Sept. 17-
Saturday, Sept. 18. The Bruins will face Chattanooga, first time
opponent James Madison, and Central Florida in the final
non-conference tournament of 2010.
A rematch with the Lady Mocs, who beat Belmont in a 2-3
heartbreaker in the Curb Event Center on Sept. 7th is up first for
the Bruins, with first serve set for 6:30 p.m. Friday. An early
morning meeting with James Madison out of the Colonial Athletic
Association starts off the day Saturday at 8 a.m. Belmont closes
the weekend with a 3:30 p.m. match against Central Florida.
The Bruins will look to get back on track after having lost four
of their last five matches, including two-five set matches: one to
Chattanooga and one to Duquesne last weekend in the Active Ankle
Challenge. Belmont is 4-8 and would like to pick up a few more wins
before starting conference play next Saturday. The Bruins are 4-3
all-time against the Lady Mocs and are 2-2 when playing at
Chattanooga. Against teams from the Southern Conference, Belmont is
9-21 and owns a 3-11 mark on the road.
Although the meeting with James Madison is a first between the
two programs, the Bruins have faced other teams out of the Colonial
Athletic Association and own a 4-7 mark against teams from that
conference with most meetings coming against former A-Sun opponent
Georgia State. Belmont is an even 2-2 in neutral site games versus
the CAA.
When the Bruins face Central Florida on Saturday it will be the
first meeting between the two schools since 2004 and the first
between Belmont and UCF Head Coach Todd Dagenais who is in his
third year as coach of the Knights. The Bruins are 0-4 all-time
against UCF. The two teams have never met on a neutral court.
Belmont will close out its 2010 non-conference slate with this
weekend's matches and a Tuesday meeting against regional power
Western Kentucky. The Bruins will travel to WKU in search of their
first ever win against the Lady Toppers. First serve for that match
is set for 7 p.m. The team will return home Saturday, Sept. 25, to
face Florida Gulf Coast and start conference play.
