Box Score CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.-- Belmont (5-9) met James Madison for
the first time in program history in an early morning match on
Saturday. The Bruins fell in another five set match, 2-3, losing
the final set 13-15. Belmont is now 1-5 in five set matches this
season.
The Bruins were led by junior Maggie
Johnson (Naperville, Ill.) with 19 kills. Johnson also recorded
11 digs and five blocks. Senior Megan
Clements (Indianapolis, Ind.) led the Bruins in digs with
22 while junior Channing
Salava (Clearwater, Fla.) recorded 52 assists to lead the
team. It was a big day for three Bruin freshman as they recorded
double-digits in three different statistical categories. Freshman

Myer (New Braunfels, Texas) garnered her first
double-digit kill outing with 12 kills and a team high .276 hitting
percentage (per 10 attacks), freshman Allison
McCoy (Huntington Beach, Calif.) recorded her first
double-digit block effort with 10 blocks, and freshman Jamie
Lundstrom (La Grange, Ill.) turned in a double-digit mark with
10 digs.
Belmont limited errors in their sweep of Chattanooga last night,
but committed 42 errors in the match against James Madison,
including 14 service errors. Last night the Bruins had 14 service
aces and multiple players with more than one ace, but were unable
to replicate that feat against the Dukes, turning in only seven
aces. Senior Carly
Frazier (Stillwater, Okla.) was the only player with
multiple aces, recording three in the match.
The Bruins have lost by two points in their last three
consecutive five-set matches. Of the 14 matches played in 2010, six
have gone to a fifth deciding set.
Play in the Country Inn & Suites Invitational continues for
Belmont this afternoon when they face Central Florida at 3:30 p.m.
The Bruins are 0-4 all time against the Knights, but the two teams
have never met on a neutral court.
