Volleyball Falls in Five to James Madison

Box Score

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.-- Belmont (5-9) met James Madison for the first time in program history in an early morning match on Saturday. The Bruins fell in another five set match, 2-3, losing the final set 13-15. Belmont is now 1-5 in five set matches this season.

The Bruins were led by junior Maggie Johnson (Naperville, Ill.) with 19 kills. Johnson also recorded 11 digs and five blocks. Senior Megan Clements (Indianapolis, Ind.) led the Bruins in digs with 22 while junior Channing Salava (Clearwater, Fla.) recorded 52 assists to lead the team. It was a big day for three Bruin freshman as they recorded double-digits in three different statistical categories. Freshman Jen Myer (New Braunfels, Texas) garnered her first double-digit kill outing with 12 kills and a team high .276 hitting percentage (per 10 attacks), freshman Allison McCoy (Huntington Beach, Calif.) recorded her first double-digit block effort with 10 blocks, and freshman Jamie Lundstrom (La Grange, Ill.) turned in a double-digit mark with 10 digs.

Belmont limited errors in their sweep of Chattanooga last night, but committed 42 errors in the match against James Madison, including 14 service errors. Last night the Bruins had 14 service aces and multiple players with more than one ace, but were unable to replicate that feat against the Dukes, turning in only seven aces. Senior Carly Frazier (Stillwater, Okla.) was the only player with multiple aces, recording three in the match.

The Bruins have lost by two points in their last three consecutive five-set matches. Of the 14 matches played in 2010, six have gone to a fifth deciding set.

Play in the Country Inn & Suites Invitational continues for Belmont this afternoon when they face Central Florida at 3:30 p.m. The Bruins are 0-4 all time against the Knights, but the two teams have never met on a neutral court.
