Box Score RENO, Nev. - - Belmont got 18 kills from senior Kayla
Albritton (Gainesville, Fla.) in a 1-3 loss to Nevada at the
Nevada Invitational. The loss drops the Bruins to 2-4 on the season
and 0-2 so far in the Invitational.
Head Coach Deane Webb said before the match that his team would
need to serve aggressively to limit the opportunities of an
athletic and physical Nevada team. Belmont was unable to achieve
that goal, committing 21 service errors and earning only three
service aces during the match. Nevada committed just nine service
errors and scored six service aces in the match.
In addition to yet another solid performance by Albritton, who
posted a team-high .394 hitting percentage, and added six digs and
a block to go along with her team-best 17 kills, the Bruins got 10
kills from senior Tara Blood
(Boise, Idaho), who also added a block, and another nine kills from
junior Maggie
Johnson (Naperville, Ill.). The trio accounted for 37 of
Belmont's 45 kills. Junior setter Channing
Salava (Clearwater, Fla.) returned to the Bruin line up at the
start of set two and led Belmont with 27 assists in three sets of
action. Freshman setter Hannah
Miranda (Covington, La.) added 12 assists for the Bruins.
Belmont continues play in the Nevada Invitational with a 7 p.m.
match against Weber State.
