BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team picked up their second win of the spring season as they defeated Cumberland (Tenn.) 6-1 in a match played indoors on Friday afternoon at the Wildwood Tennis Club in Brentwood, Tennessee.
Belmont started the match by winning the doubles point. At number two, Lindsay Bennett and Laura Stack beat Anita Racr and Amber Johnson 8-0, while at number three Catherine Holliday and Natalia Nunes swept Tais Bezerra and Lindsey Gaither 8-0.
In singles, the Bruins won five of the six matches to clinch the 6-1 match victory. Fabiana Mersan won at number two as she beat Courtney Schaub 6-2, 6-1. At the number three position, Catherine Holliday defeated Anita Racr 6-1, 6-1. Lindsay Bennett won in straight sets over Amber Johnson at number four 6-0, 6-1, while Natalia Nunes won at number five over Tais Bezerra 6-1, 6-0. Finally at number six, Laura Stack beat Lindsey Gaither 6-1, 6-1.
Belmont (2-5) is back in action tomorrow (Saturday) with two matches in Bowling Green, KY. They play Western Kentucky at 12:00 noon and then play Kentucky Wesleyan at 3:00pm.
