ATLANTA, Ga.---In game two of the Springhill Suites Buckhead Classic against Georgia State, Belmont (5-13), fell by a score of 2-8. Georgia State jumped out to an early lead after the first batter of the game reached on an error. The Panthers scored three runs in the first and the Bruins committed two errors. In the bottom of the inning, Gift recorded her first home run as a Bruin with her solo shot over the left field fence to cut the lead to 1-3.
The defensive struggles would continue for the Bruins through the fourth inning, as Belmont committed three more errors and surrendered five runs. Georgia State scored four of those runs in the top of the fourth, an inning that saw two costly errors for Belmont, as both runners came across to score. The Bruins left runners in scoring position in the bottom of the third and fourth innings, then stranded three runners in the bottom of the sixth inning. Belmont finally got on the scoreboard again in the bottom of the seventh inning, when Cassie Bollin scored from third on a throwing error by the catcher.
The Bruins fell to 5-13 with the pair of losses. They'll face Penn State and Georgia Tech on Sunday. The game against Penn State will begin at 9 a.m. CST, and the second game will follow, with a scheduled start time of 12:30 p.m. CST.
