NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont baseball team gets back into Atlantic Sun Conference play with a three game series at USC Upstate this weekend. The Bruins will play one contest on Friday at 5:00 p.m. CT, before taking on the Spartans in doubleheader action on Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans welcome Belmont to Spartanburg this weekend, holding a record of 11-20 and a 7-12 mark in the friendly confines of Harley Park. USC Upstate is 5-8 in A-Sun Conference play, most recently taking one out of three from league leading Stetson last weekend. Since then Upstate has fallen twice more, dropping their third and fourth straight contests at South Carolina and versus Gardner-Webb. The Spartans are led at the plate by four starters batting over .300. Blake Green leads the way with an average of .374, while Austin Liput is batting .346 with six doubles, 22 runs batted in, and an astounding six triples on the season.
Belmont leads the all-time series with USC Upstate by a mark of 6-3. The Bruins have taken two out of three games from the Spartans in each of their series since the 2008 season. Last season BU won the first two tilts of the series in Nashville by scores of 8-5 and 8-2. In the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, Upstate got the better of the Bruins, winning 3-1 at Shelby Park.
