Baseball Plays Defending Champ Mercer at 1:00 p.m. For A-Sun Title

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont baseball team (35-24, 17-13) will take on defending champion Mercer (39-19, 17-12) in Championship Saturday action this afternoon beginning at 1:00 p.m. CT.  The Bruins will get two chances to defeat the Bears in attempting to claim their first ever Atlantic Sun Conference Championship.

Check out a pre-game interview with Head Coach Dave Jarvis as well as Mercer Head Coach Craig Gibson courtesy of the conference.

Belmont defeated Mercer on Friday to send them to the losers' bracket.  The Bears defeated Jacksonville by a score of 1-0 on Friday night to earn a shot at the title this afternoon.  BU has won each of its three championship contests to get to Saturday's final day of the tournament.  The Bruins topped Stetson, Kennesaw State and Mercer.

The last time BU made it to the A-Sun Championship was in 2007 when the Bruins fell to Jacksonville in two tilts by scores of 10-4 and 7-6.  The 34 Belmont victories in that 2007 campaign was the previous program-best, before the 2011 Bruins won their 35 contest on Friday.
