NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont baseball team (13-8, 2-1) is set to play a pair of non-conference road games this week. The Bruins will be at Western Kentucky (8-11, 1-2) on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m., and at Murray State (10-10, 0-0) on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
Belmont has won five of its last six contests, and just finished up a road series win over ETSU in the first Atlantic Sun Conference action of the season. Senior Dylan Craig (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) helped lead the Bruins to a 4-1 week, going 6-for-18 and recording a double, a triple, and a home run while driving in seven runs in the week. His first triple of the year gave the center fielder 21 for his career, a tie for the most ever at Belmont.
Western Kentucky is 8-11 and lost its first Sun Belt Conference series of the year, dropping to of three games at Middle Tennessee this past weekend. The Hilltoppers are hitting .273 as a team, and have an overall ERA of 5.17. Scott Wilcox leads WKU with a .338 batting average, while Adam Lavelle has driven in 16 runs to lead the team at the plate. LHP Austin Clay, who is scheduled to start on Tuesday, is 3-2 on the year with an ERA of 4.87.
Murray State is currently 10-10, but will host Mid-Continent on Tuesday before welcoming Belmont in on Wednesday. The Thoroughbreds had lost four straight games before beating Southern Mississippi in a three series this past weekend. Murray State is hitting .265 and has a team ERA of 5.25. The 'Breds will look to even the season series with the Bruins, who won the first meeting back on March 7 by a score of 3-2 in extra innings.
Belmont will send usual midweek starters junior Josh Davis (Fayetteville, Ga.) and freshman Dan Ludwig (Naperville, Ill.) to the mound once again on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively. The latter allowed one run on three hits in five innings of work the last time out against Murray State.
