MACON, Ga. -- The Belmont men's tennis team beat Mercer 4-3 in an Atlantic Sun Conference match played Friday afternoon in Macon, Georgia.
Belmont won the first point of the match as they won two of the three doubles matches. At number one doubles, Renato Antun and Rafael Matos beat David Barton and Victor Dias 8-6, while at number two, Henrique Norbiato and Rodrigo Amaral beat Pierre Tafelski and Peter Tauchner 9-8.
In singles, the Bruins held off a stiff charge by the Bears, winning three matches to clinch the 4-3 victory over the homestanding Bears. Henrique Norbaito won at number two over Peter Tauchner 6-3, 4-6, 7-5. Rodrigo Amaral defeated Joao Pagan at number three 6-3, 6-2. While at number four, Fernando Mussolini beat David Barton 6-1, 6-2.
It was Belmont's ninth win in 13 meetings with the Bears.
Belmont improves their overall record to 5-9, 2-0 in the Atlantic Sun.
The Bruins are back on the court tomorrow as they play at Kennesaw State. That match is set for 12:00 noon.
