MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Opening play in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, at Middle Tennessee's MTSU Invitational, the Belmont University men's tennis team fought hard in four singles matches Friday as sophomore
Cagan Efe Tufekci claimed a straight-set victory. Both freshman
Judah McEachern-Brown and junior
Esteban Ortiz were barely edged in tiebreakers against the University of Louisville's Artem Dmytrenko and Maksim Hristov, respectfully.
Picking up where he left off last week at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Ohio Valley Regional Championships, Efe Tufekci topped Alabama's Yoshka Sborowsky 6-3, 6-4.
McEachern-Brown took the Cardinals' Dmytrenko the distance but fell 7-3 in a deciding third-set tiebreaker. Meanwhile, Ortiz was unable to get past Louisville's Hristov in consecutive tiebreak sets.
The Bruins return to action at the MTSU Tennis Complex Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
Belmont will take on the host Blue Raiders on day two of the MTSU Invitational, before facing the University of Alabama at Birmingham Sunday.
