NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont baseball team (19-10, 7-2 A-Sun), fresh off a road sweep of Jacksonville, will travel to Clarksville to play a non-conference contest against Austin Peay (18-10, 6-0 OVC) on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
The Bruins improved to 7-2 in Atlantic Sun Conference play with the sweep of the Dolphins this weekend, and are now in a tie for first in league play with USC Upstate and Kennesaw State. Belmont swept JU for the first time since 2003 and only the second time ever in the all-time series. It marked the first time that Jacksonville was swept in an A-Sun series since 2008.
BU is now 11-3 over its last 14 contests and are 7-4 away from home in 2012. Senior captain Zac Mitchell (Cordova, Tenn.) leads the Bruins with an average of .333 and a league-best 31 runs scored. Freshman Dan Ludwig (Naperville, Ill.), currently 0-3 on the year, is scheduled to start on the mound in a "staff day" for Belmont.
Austin Peay, meanwhile, welcomes Belmont to town riding a seven-game winning streak. The Governors are 11-5 at home on the season and undefeated in Ohio Valley Conference play. Jordan Hankins leads Austin Peay with a .314 average, four home runs, and 26 runs batted in at the plate. Rolando Gautier, who has made two appearances this season, will start in a staff day for the Govs.
Tuesday's contest between Belmont and Austin Peay will feature live audio on the Bruins Sports Network with play-by-play from Rich Tiner. The game can also be followed with Live Stats at APSUGovernors.com or the Belmont Baseball Twitter Feed.
