Men's Soccer Tops Jacksonville In A Decisive 2-0 Victory

Box Score

NASHVILLE, Tenn---The Bruins (4-6-1) men soccer team took on the Jacksonville Dolphins (1-8-1) in a Saturday matchup at E.S. Rose Park.

The game was well controlled by the Bruins from the start of the first half.  Freshman Ralphael Comanette (San Paulo, Brazil) had a few quality chances early that were fended off by the Dolphin net minder.

The Bruins and Dolphins were equal in shots for the match with 11 a piece.

In the 43rd minute Belmont mounted a terrific counter that gave them the go-ahead goal.  Sam Miller (Gilbert, Ariz.) placed the ball in the back of the net with a well-minded header; Alfred Edmonds (San Jose, Cal.) was credited with the assist.

The goal by Miller was his first of the season.

The Bruins would keep the pressure on well into the second half, dominating possession and controlling the pace of the match.

In the 79th minute of play Diego Figueroa (Pensacola, Fla.) shot and scored from deep, 10 yards past the half-field line, to put the Bruins ahead 2-0.

The goal was Figueroa's third on season.

The Bruins would fend off any of the Dolphin advances for the rest of the game, sealing the Bruin victory.

Belmont men's soccer will be back in action this Wednesday, Oct. 3 on the road against Cleveland State.
