NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's basketball team (2-1) will look to extend its win streak with a stop at in-state rival Chattanooga (1-1) on Sunday afternoon.
The Mocs come into Sunday's game looking to rebound for an 80-56 loss at Tennessee. UTC stands at 1-1 on the young season after opening the 2013-14 campaign with an 82-70 win over Alabama at home.
Chattanooga is led in scoring in Taylor Hall, who is averaging 18 points per game. Meghan Downes also averages in double figures, adding 10.5 per game. Faith Dupree leads the team in rebounds, grabbing 7.5 per outing.
UTC leads the all-time series, 8-3, and has won the last six matchups dating back to the 1978-79 season.
Belmont travels East on a two game win streak after knocking off rival Lipscomb in the Battle of the Boulevard, 68-52. Belmont saw four players reach double digits, led by junior Jordyn Luffman's (Lawrenceburg, Tenn.) game-high 14 points. Sophomore Blair Bryce (Red Oak, Texas) added 13 followed by junior Adrienne Tarrence (Bowling Green, Ky.) with 12 and classmate Torie Vaught (Maryville, Tenn.) with 10. Luffman was one rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards. Bryce and freshman Lauren Thompson (Franklin, Tenn.) finished with two blocks each. Tarrence notched a season and game-high six assists.
BU is led in scoring by Luffman, who is averaging 14.3 points per contest. Bryce is the only other Bruin contributing in double digits, adding 10.0 per game. Luffman also leads the team in rebounds, pulling down 7.7 per outing. Tarrence leads the team in assists with a total of 14 while Bryce leads the team in blocks with three.
