NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's basketball team (2-3) will look to put one in the win column with its trip to Indiana on Friday. The Bruins face off against Big Ten champion Purdue (3-0) in an afternoon tipoff contest in West Lafayette.
Purdue stands at 3-0 in the early season, picking up wins over Ball State, IUPUI and Toledo. One year ago, the Boilers went 25-9 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 23rd time in program history.
The Boilermakers have three players averaging in double figures – KK Houser, contributing 19.3, Whitney Bays, adding 15.0 and Courtney Moses, scoring 14.3 point per game. Bays leads the team in rebounds, grabbing 6.3 per contest.
The programs have only met once before, facing off during the opening round of the 2006 Preseason WNIT in West Lafayette. The Boilermakers won, 67-43.
Belmont heads to the state of Indiana looking to snap a two-game skid after picking up its most recent loss at home to Texas A&M Corpus Christi on November 19. Junior Jordyn Luffman (Lawrenceburg, Tenn.) netted a game and new career-high 20 points in the effort. Also reaching double figures was redshirt freshman Frankie Joubran (Detroit, Mich.) dropping in a career-high 11 points. Junior Adrienne Tarrence (Bowling Green, Ky.) finished with four assists.
Luffman leads the team in scoring, averaging 16.2 points per outing. She is also perfect at the charity stripe, going 16-for-16. Luffman also leads the team in rebounds, pulling down 7.8 per game. Tarrence leads the team in assists with a total of 20 while Luffman and junior Katie Carroll (Lilburn, Ga.) share the lead in steals with eight each.
