NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's basketball team (3-5) returns to the road this week for a single matchup. The Bruins travel to North Carolina for a first-time meeting with Wake Forest (4-4) on Tuesday night.
Wake Forest stands at 4-4 on the season after competing in the John Ascuaga's Nugget Classic, falling to California and Nevada. The Demon Deacons were picked to finish 12th in the ACC for their 2013-14 campaign.
The Deacs are led in scoring by Dearica Hamby, who was named to the Nugget Classic All-Tournament Team, and Chelsea Douglas, who are averaging 20.8 and 20.3 points per game, respectively. Hamby also leads the team in rebounds, grabbing 10 per contest.
This will mark the first-ever meeting between the programs.
Belmont enters the matchup with first-time opponent Wake Forest looking to get back into the win column after a stunning defeat at the buzzer on the road at Georgia State. Junior Jordyn Luffman (Lawrenceburg, Tenn.) scored a career-high 21 points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. Classmate Katie Carroll (Lilburn, Ga.), playing in front of a huge home crowd, dropped in 15 points, spurred by a career-high five three pointers. Redshirt freshman Frankie Joubran (Detroit, Mich.) rounded out BU's double digit scorers with a career-high 13 points. Junior Adrienne Tarrence (Bowling Green, Ky.) collected seven assists.
The Bruins are led in scoring by Luffman who is averaging 15 points per game. She also leads the team in rebounds, pulling down 8.5 per outing. Junior Torie Vaught (Maryville, Tenn.) is sharp shooting behind the arc, knocking down 50 percent of her attempts. Tarrence leads the team in assists with a total of 36 dishes while sophomore Blair Bryce (Red Oak, Texas) leads the charge in stops with a total of seven blocks.
