BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Belmont men's tennis team fell to Cumberland (Tenn.) 4-3 in a match played indoors Friday night at the Wildwood Tennis Club in Brentwood.
The Bruins took the early lead as they swept all three doubles matches. At number one, the duo of Renato Antun and Henrik Claesson beat Pedro Rodrigues and Pablo Borrero 8-4, while at number two Fernando Mussolini and Henrique Norbiato defeated Sebastian Nava and Andres Burgos 8-6. BU completed the doubles sweep as Navarro Veys and Bruno Silva won at number three over Cristhian Hernandez and Jeremy Fleming 8-4.
In singles, the Bulldogs, ranked #11 in the NAIA national rankings, stormed back. Cumberland posted wins at positions two, three, four, and five to clinch the 4-3 match win. Belmont's two singles wins came at numbers one and six. At number one, Renato Antun defeated Pedro Rodrigues 6-1, 6-0, while at number six; Bruno Silva beat Dylan Nelson 6-4, 6-2.
The men's tennis team (1-3) returns to the court on Sunday as they play at #33 Vanderbilt. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:30pm.
