NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team picked up their fourth win of the season as they beat North Alabama 5-2 in a match played indoors on Saturday afternoon at the Westside Tennis Club in Nashville.
Belmont (4-3) captured the first point of the match as they won two of the three doubles matches. At number two, Fabiana Mersan and Nikki Maciel beat Madison Patey and Bruna Vieira 8-6, while at number three, Catherine Holliday and Natalia Nunes blanked Teresa Franco and Marcey Anne Sykes 8-0,
In singles, the Lions picked up wins at the first two positions, but the Bruins swept the last four matches to clinch the 5-2 victory. At number three, Fabiana Mersan beat Bruna Vieira 6-3, 6-2. Carolyn Caire won at number four over Teresa Franco 6-1, 6-1. In the number five match, Natalia Nunes defeated Madison Patey 6-1, 6-2, while at number six, Sandra Kancheva beat Marcey Anne Sykes 6-0, 6-0.
With the next two weeks off, the women's tennis team returns to the court on Friday, March 15th when they host Northern Iowa at 1:00pm at Centennial Sportsplex.
