Men's Tennis Falls to #33 Vanderbilt 4-0

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont men's tennis team fell to #33 Vanderbilt 4-0 in a match played indoors on Sunday at the Currey Tennis Center in Nashville.

The nationally ranked Commodores took the lead early as they captured two of the three doubles matches to clinch the first point of the match.  At position three, VU's Jeff Offerdahl and Rhys Johnson beat Navarro Veys and Bruno Silva 8-2, while at number two doubles, Gonzales Austin and Suresh Eswaran defeated Henrique Norbiato and Fernando Mussolini 8-4.  The remaining doubles match was not completed. 

In singles, the Commodores picked up wins at positions four, five and one to clinch the 4-0 victory over the Bruins.  Rhys Johnson won at number four over Navarro Veys 6-0, 6-0, while at number five Kris Yee beat Bruno Silva 6-0, 6-2.  Vanderbilt clinched the victory as #33 Gonzalez Austin defeated Renato Antun 7-6, 6-1.  The remaining singles matches were stopped since the match result had been determined.

Belmont (1-4) returns to the court on Saturday as they play at Lipscomb starting at 10:00am.
