Women's Tennis Beats Western Kentucky 5-2 in Home Opener

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team notched their second win of the season as they beat Western Kentucky 5-2 in a match played indoors on Friday at the Westside Club in Nashville.  The win marked the 11th straight time Belmont has beaten WKU.

The Hilltoppers picked up the first point of the match as they swept all three doubles matches. But as singles began, Belmont changed the momentum of the match.

In singles, the Bruins won five of the six singles matches in straight sets to clinch the 5-2 win over WKU.  At number two, senior Catherine Holliday beat McKinley Mason 7-5, 6-3, while fellow senior Fabiana Mersan won at number three in straight sets over Carolina Barboza 7-5, 6-2.  Then, at number four, senior Carolyn Caire defeated Gabby Crofford 6-0, 6-2.  At the fifth position, senior Natalia Nunes beat Alex Crofford 6-0, 6-2, while freshman Ann Lauren Fiepke won in straight sets over Morgan Freman 6-1, 6-1.

The women's tennis team is back in action next Friday as they host Cumberland (Tenn.) indoors at Westside starting at 4:00pm.
