Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont Baseball (13-6) fell to Northern Illinois, 8-2, Sunday at Rose Park.
Scott Moses (Englewood, Tenn.) laid down a sacrifice bunt and advanced on an error by the Huskies's second baseman, scoring Matt Beaty (Dresden, Tenn.) to put Belmont on the board, 1-0 in the bottom of the second. Alec Diamond (Kennesaw, Ga.) grounded out to the short stop to score Jared Breen and put the Bruins on top 2-0.
In the top of the fourth, the Huskies got on the board, 2-1, when NIU starter Alex Klonowski crossed the plate behind a singled from Brian Sisler.
James Buckelew (Lawrenceville, Ga.) got the start for the Bruins and went 5.2 innings, giving up three hits and giving up one Huskies run. The left hander struck out two.
The Huskies loaded the bases in the top of the sixth and pinch hitter Brandon Mallader doubled to left to begin the scoring for the Huskies. Connor Duckhorn followed with a single to left scoring NIU's third run of the inning to take a 4-2 lead.
In Jessie Snodgrass' (Lebanon, Tenn.) relief appearance he gave up five hits. NIU's Jeff Zimmerman hit an RBI single to score an NIU run and put the Huskies up 5-2 after seven innings.
Moses took the mound in the top of the ninth. After Tommy Hook singled, the Huskies' Klonowski attempted to lay down a squeeze play but a throwing error on a pickoff by Jamie Ritchie (Burford, Ga.) at first allowed Hook to score. Zimmerman hit a one run triple out to right center. He proceeded to score off a wild pitch putting the Huskies up 8-2.
The Bruins will return to Rose Park on Tuesday, March 19 as they host Middle Tennessee State. The first pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
