NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team picked up their first OVC win of the season as they defeated Tennessee State 7-0 in a match played Thursday afternoon at Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville.
The Bruins captured the first point of the match as they swept both doubles matches. At number one, Senior Carolyn Caire and freshman Sandra Kancheva beat Shardel Suber and Attallah Eiland 8-0. While at the number two position, seniors Catherine Holliday and Natalia Nunes beat Kryston Mason and London Thomas 8-1. The third doubles match was defaulted by Tennessee State.
In singles, BU swept all four singles matches that were played. At number one, Catherine Holliday beat Shardel Suber 6-0, 6-0. Junior Nikki Maciel won at number two over London Thomas 6-0, 6-2. At number three, Carolyn Caire swept Atallah Eiland 6-0, 6-0, while senior Natalia Nunes beat Kryston Mason 6-0, 6-0. The matches at positions five and six were defaulted by TSU.
Belmont (5-5, 1-1) returns to the court tomorrow afternoon as they play at Morehead State starting at 1:00pm CT.
