NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team fell to Eastern Illinois 4-0 in an OVC match played Friday in Nashville. The match was shortened to just singles play because the match was forced indoors due to rain.
The Panthers took an early 2-0 lead as they won at positions three and five. EIU picked up the clinching wins at positions one and three, but not without a fight as both matches went to a decisive third set. At number one, Janelle Prisner beat Nikki Maciel 6-1, 1-6, 6-2, while at number two, Merritt Whitley defeated Catherine Holliday 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
Belmont (6-7, 2-3) is back on the court on tomorrow (Saturday) as they host SIU-Edwardsville at 10:00am at Centennial Sportsplex.
