Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Belmont University men's soccer team returned to its winning ways Saturday evening as the Bruins shutout Jacksonville, 1-0.
Belmont's Raphael Colmanette (Sao Paulo, Brazil) scored the lone goal in the contest five minutes into the match as the sophomore took a pass from fellow forward Joonas Bask to notch his second goal on the season.
"I thought we started off extremely well with several good possessions and a lot of confidence," Belmont head coach Earle Davidson said. "Luca Schioppa and Bask combined to do a great job at setting up Colmanette."
The Bruins dominated the first half offensively as Belmont (4-3-1) outshot the Dolphins 8-0.
Jacksonville (1-5-1) picked up its offense in the second half but the Dolphins couldn't get past an outstanding effort from Bruin goalkeeper Grayson Rector (Peachtree City, Ga.) as Belmont went on to capture its first road victory of the season.
"I thought we were a bit tired in the second half but we played smart and confident," Davidson said. "We gave a tough and composed effort to finish off the game."
Belmont outshot the Dolphins on the match, 17-11. The Bruins also held a 6-4 shot-on-goal advantage. Colmanette led the charge offensively for Belmont as the forward notched a match-best five shots on the evening.
Rector (4-3-1) recorded four saves as the freshman earned his third shutout victory on the season.
The Bruins will be back in action Wednesday, October 2, when Belmont travels to Virginia for a 6 p.m. CT match with Longwood.
