NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's basketball team (7-12, 4-2 OVC) look to add another W to their column when it faces off at crosstown rival Tennessee State (5-12, 2-2 OVC) on Saturday.
TSU stands at 5-12 overall and 2-2 in league play after having its two-game win streak snapped at home by Tennessee Tech on Thursday night.
The Lady Tigers have two players averaging in double digits – Chelsea Hudson and Rachel Allen, who contribute 16.6 and 12.0 points per game, respectively. Hudson also leads the team in rebounds, grabbing 7.5 per contest.
Belmont leads the all-time series 24-9 but the Lady Tigers narrowly won last year's matchup, 54-53, in the Curb Event Center.
Belmont looks to ride its recent success into the Gentry Center after pulling off a come from behind victory at home over Murray State. Junior Katie Carroll (Lilburn, Ga.) matched her career-high with a game-high 15 points. Classmates Jordyn Luffman (Lawrenceburg, Tenn.) added 13 points and Taylor Mills (Corryton, Tenn.) contributed 10 points. Redshirt freshman Frankie Joubran (Detroit, Mich.) pulled down a game and career-high 17 rebounds. Junior Adrienne Tarrence (Bowling Green, Ky.) and Carroll finished with four assists each while Joubran and Luffman each recorded two blocks.
Luffman leads the Bruins in scoring, averaging 14.7 points, and rebounds, pulling down 6.9 per outing. Tarrence leads the team in assists with a total of 78. Freshman Lauren Thompson (Franklin, Tenn.) and sophomore Blair Bryce (Red Oak, Texas) lead BU in blocks with 10 apiece.
Saturday's game is set to tipoff at 5:30 p.m. as part of a doubleheader. The matchup can be seen live on the OVC Digital Network.
