Women's Basketball Hosts EKU on Saturday for Betty Wiseman Day

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's basketball team opens a two-game homestand at the Curb Event Center this weekend.  The Bruins (7-13, 4-3 OVC) host Eastern Kentucky (10-6, 4-1 OVC) on Saturday evening as part of a doubleheader to celebrate Betty Wiseman Appreciation Day.

Eastern Kentucky comes to Nashville looking to extend its recent two-game win streak.  The Colonels stand at 10-6 overall and 4-1 in the OVC.

EKU has three players averaging in double digits, led by Marie Carpenter, who drops in 21.8 points per game.  Shelly Harper and Pilar Walker add 11.1 and 10.7 points per contest, respectively.  Harper and Miranda Maples lead the team in rebounds, grabbing 6.4 and 6.3 boards per outing, respectively.

Belmont leads the all-time series, 7-3.  The programs split their two meetings one year ago, with the Colonels narrowly winning the second matchup, 55-51.

BU is looking to rebound from its close loss at crosstown rival Tennessee State over the weekend. Junior Jordyn Luffman (Lawrenceburg, Tenn.) led all scorers with 16 points, followed by redshirt freshman Frankie Joubran (Detroit, Mich.), who added 14.  Each picked up a double-double with 13 and 12 rebounds, respectively.  Freshman Lauren Thompson (Franklin, Tenn.) finished with three blocks.

Luffman leads the Bruins in scoring, averaging 14.8 points, and rebounds, pulling down 7.2 per outing.  Junior Adrienne Tarrence (Bowling Green, Ky.) leads the team in assists with a total of 81. Thompson and sophomore Blair Bryce (Red Oak, Texas)  lead BU in blocks with 13 and 11 blocks, respectively.

Saturday's game is set to tip at 5 p.m. with a tribute to former Belmont player, coach, professor emeritus, and administrator Betty Wiseman immediately after in celebration of Betty Wiseman Day.  Fans can watch the contest live on the OVC Digital Network and can listen live to Dr. Rich Tiner on the play-by-play call via the Bruins Sports Network.  Live stats and an in-game Twitter feed (@BelmontWBB) will also be available.
