Box Score MURRAY, Ky. -- Belmont volleyball's season came to a close Saturday evening as the Bruins fell to Murray State (26-5) in three sets (21-25, 16-25,22-25) in the finals of the 2014 OVC Tournament at MSU's Racer Arena.
The two teams battled back and forth throughout the opening stanza as the score stood knotted at 19 late in the set.
The Bruins briefly pulled a head, 21-20, off a kill by Arianna Person (Lenexa, Kan.), before the hosts took control of the action, tallying five consecutive points as the Racers captured the set, 25-21.
With the Bruins only down one, 17-16, in the second, Murray State once again slammed the door on BU's chances as the Racers revved up their engines and went on a huge run.
MSU tallied eight consecutive points in order to take the set, 25-16, as the hosts went up two sets to none heading into intermission.
Trailing 19-17 in the third, Belmont used back-to-back points in order to tie the set at 19.
Murray State was not going to be denied, however, as the Racers tallied four of the next five points in order to pull ahead, 23-20.
Two consecutive points pulled BU to within one, 23-22, but back-to-back Racer kills closed the door on the Bruin rally attempt as Murray State captured the set, 25-21, and the match, 3-0.
Belmont was led by the outside hitting duo of Person and senior Scarlet Gable (Munford, Tenn.).
Person finished with a near double with a team-high 13 kills to go along with 8 digs. Gable finished her collegiate career with 8 kills off a .286 hitting percentage.
BU setter Emma Price (Fort Mill, S.C.) paced the Bruins with 26 assist and also added seven digs
Person and Price were selected as part of the OVC All-Tournament team for their efforts over the past three days.
The Bruins finished the season with a 19-14 overall record.
