NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's basketball returns to game action Tuesday versus Middle Tennessee.
The Bruins defeated Ohio, 83-81, Saturday. Junior Craig Bradshaw (Ridgetop, Tenn.) scored a Belmont NCAA Division I era record 42 points, including the game-winning basket with 0.2 seconds left.
Bradshaw was named OVC Player of the Week and National Player of the Week by several outlets Monday.
Belmont and Middle Tennessee are getting used to new players. Belmont has seven newcomers this season, while Middle Tennessee has nine.
Senior Holden Mobley (Nashville, Tenn.) and sophomore Caleb Chowbay (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) each played career-high minutes last season at Middle Tennessee.
Belmont and Middle Tennessee each graduated conference player of the year honorees last season: Belmont's J.J. Mann was OVC Player of the Year and Middle Tennessee's Shawn Jones was Conference USA Player of the Year.
Belmont (NCAA Division I era) is 19-17 lifetime against current members of Conference USA (FIU 0-1, Florida Atlantic 5-4, Marshall 1-1, Middle Tennessee 10-7, Old Dominion 0-1, Rice 1-0, Southern Miss 0-1, UAB 0-1, Western Kentucky 2-1).
This is the 12th straight season Belmont and Middle Tennessee have played during non-conference play.
This marks the 35th meeting between Belmont and Middle Tennessee. The Bruins won last season's meeting in Murfreesboro, 70-58. J.J. Mann scored 32 points to lead Belmont.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast nationally on the American Sports Network (check local listings; simulcast on the OVC Digital Network).
