BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Belmont men's tennis team picked up their second win of the spring season as they defeated Cumberland (Tenn.) 4-1 in a non-conference match held Sunday night indoors at the Wildwood Tennis Club in Brentwood.
Belmont won the first point of the match as they posted wins in two of the three doubles matches. At number one, the duo of Marko Lovrinovic and Mauricio Antun blanked Antonio Marcelo and Pablo Borrero 8-0. Then at number two, freshman Cedric Dujacquier and Henrik Claesson beat Diogo Soares and Garry Tokas 8-2.
In singles, the Bruins picked up wins in three of the first four matches to clinch the 4-1 match win over the visiting Bulldogs. Dujacquier gave BU a 2-0 lead when he beat Pablo Borrero in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 at number three. Cumberland cut the lead to 2-1 when Diogo Soares defeated Martijn Verberne at number four 6-4, 6-1. Antun gave the Bruins a 3-1 lead when he beat Antonio Marcelo at number one 7-6, 6-1. Then, at number two, Lovrinovic clinched the victory for Belmont as he defeated Pedro Rodrigues in three sets: 7-6, 4-6, 6-1. The two remaining matches were stopped since the match result had been determined.
Belmont (2-3) will be back in action on Tuesday, March 4th as they play at Bethune-Cookman.
