Baseball Falls to Memphis on Tuesday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Belmont Baseball (4-4) fell to Memphis, 2-1 at FedEx Park on Tuesday.

Starting pitchers James Buckelew (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and Memphis' Caleb Wallingford matched up in a classic pitchers' duel in which all three runs that scored were unearned.

A sacrifice fly from Jamie Ritchie (Buford, Ga.) scored Zach Hald (Roswell, Ga.) as the Bruins took an early 1-0 lead in the first.

Memphis tied the game in the second as Ethan Gross grounded out to second, allowing Carter White to score.

In the fifth, the Tigers took a 2-1 lead behind a sacrifice fly from Zach Willis to score Nate Rupiper.

Buckelew went six innings on the mound. The left-hander gave up five hits, struck out two and walked two.

Belmont returns home to Rose Park for a three-game series with Mercer, beginning on Friday, February 28.
