NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's basketball team tunes up for one final regular season game this weekend before heading into OVC Tournament play next week. The Bruins (13-15, 10-5 OVC) hit the road to face off at Jacksonville State (11-17, 7-8 OVC) on Saturday afternoon.
Jacksonville State enters Saturday's contest looking to snap a two-game skid before heading into the OVC Tournament next week. The Gamecocks stand at 11-17 overall and 7-8 in conference play.
JSU has three players averaging in double figures, led by Candace Morton, who is adding 16.9 points per outing. Destany McLin and Miranda Cantrell follow, contributing 13.5 and 10.4 points per game. Cantrell also leads the team I rebounds, grabbing 7.4 per game.
Belmont leads the all-time series, 6-2, including a dominating 92-50 win in Nashville back on January 6. BU has also won the last three meetings between the programs.
The Bruins travel to Alabama riding on a wave of momentum fueled by a come-from-behind win on the road at Eastern Kentucky earlier this week. BU owns the top spot in the OVC East with a 10-5 mark. The team sports an overall record of 13-15.
Junior Jordyn Luffman (Lawrenceburg, Tenn.) leads the Bruins in scoring, averaging 14.4 points. Redshirt freshman Frankie Joubran (Detroit, Mich.) leads the team in rebounds, pulling down 7.4 per outing. Junior Adrienne Tarrence (Bowling Green, Ky.) leads the team in assists with a total of 109. Freshman Lauren Thompson (Franklin, Tenn.) and sophomore Blair Bryce (Red Oak, Texas) lead BU in blocks with 14 apiece.
