NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team picked up their first win of the season as they defeated North Alabama 4-3 in a non-conference match held indoors on Friday at Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville.
The Bruins scored the first point of the match as they won two of three doubles matches. After losing at number one, the duo of Abbie Mather and Maddie Gilley won at number two over Bruna Vieira and Avery King 6-2. Then, at number three, Ann Lauren Fiepke and Sandra Kancheva defeated Madison Patey and Morgan Jose 6-0.
In singles, Belmont went up 3-0 as Kendall Warren won at number two over Natalia Barragan in three sets 7-5, 2-6, 10-8 and Abbie Mather beat Madison Patey at number four 6-4, 6-3. Then, the visiting Lions bounced back and cut the lead to 3-2 as they won at the number one and three positions. BU closed out the victory at number six as Erika Marschall beat Morgan Jose 6-0, 6-2.
The Bruins (1-1) return to the court next Friday, February 14th as they host Western Kentucky indoors at Centennial Sportsplex beginning at 3:00pm.
