NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team fell in their OVC opener to Southeast Missouri State 4-3 in a match played Saturday at Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville.
The Redhawks took an early lead as they won the doubles point. SEMO posted wins at positions one and two to take the lead 1-0. Belmont did win at number three as Abbie Mather and Maddie Gilley beat Annisa Warasanti and Valeriia Nagovitcina 8-5.
In singles, the Bruins stormed back and posted wins at positions four and five to grab a 2-1 lead. At number four, Kendall Warren beat Heather Robinson 6-1, 6-0 and then Abbie Mather won at number five over Annisa Warasnati 6-3, 6-0. Then the Redhawks earned wins at number one and six to take a 3-2 lead. BU tied it at 3-3 when Nikki Maciel beat Ekaterina Donetckova at number three 6-4, 7-5. The match win was clinched for SEMO when Valeriia Nagovitcina defeated Laura Van Eeckhoudt in three sets 3-6, 6-4, and 6-2.
Belmont (2-4) will be back in action on Sunday as they play at UT-Martin.
