NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's basketball team will hit the road for its first taste of postseason action since 2007 this week. The Bruins (14-17) take on Indiana (18-12) on Thursday night in Bloomington for a first round Postseason WNIT game.
The Hoosiers enter the first round of the 2014 WNIT looking to recover from a loss in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament last week. Indiana stands at 18-12 overall and finished with a 5-11 mark in conference play.
IU is led in scoring by Larryn Brooks, who is averaging 15.6 points per contest. Simone Deloach leads the team in rebounds, grabbing 6.1 per outing.
Indiana leads the all-time series 4-1 but Belmont bested the Hoosiers in the last matchup between the programs during the 2012-13 campaign, 58-54, in Bloomington.
Belmont is led in scoring by First Team All-OVC junior Jordyn Luffman (Lawrenceburg, Tenn.), who is averaging 14.3 points per game. Redshirt freshman Frankie Joubran (Detroit, Mich.) leads the team in rebounds, pulling down 7.5 per contest. Junior Adrienne Tarrence (Bowling Green, Ky.) leads the squad in assists with a total of 119.
The Bruins have several ties to the Hoosier state. Head Coach Cameron Newbauer is from Fort Wayne while sophomore Natalie Cohlmeyer hails from Evansville. Senior team manager Beth Anne Weiler is a native of Bloomington.
Belmont last appeared in the WNIT in 2006, being edged at the buzzer by current OVC foe Tennessee Tech, 56-55.
