CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- Belmont Softball returned to OVC-play Saturday afternoon, dropping a pair of games to Austin Peay, 8-4, 2-1.
Game 1: Austin Peay 8, Belmont 4
Belmont dented the scoreboard first in the day's opening contest off a Jessica Wilson (Alvin, Tex.) home run to left field in the first inning. The homer proved to be her fourth of the season.
Austin Peay tied up the contest in the following inning with a home run to right field by Lauren de Castro.
The Bruins retook the lead in the following inning when Kirbie Ferrell (Pasadena, Tex.) stole home plate.
The Lady Govs seperated themselves in the home half of the third as APSU scored four runs off three hits.
Austin Peay added three insurance runs in the sixth inning as the Lady Govs defeated the Bruins, 8-4.
Wilson lead Belmont's offense as the sophomore went 3-for-4 on the day with a pair of RBIs.
Game 2: Austin Peay 2, Belmont 1
In the second contest, the two teams were held scoreless through the first five innings. Belmont once again got on the scoreboard first off an RBI single from Kat Hollingsworth (Carrollton, Tex.).
Austin Peay once again had an answer as APSU's Vinchenza Dibenedetto drove in a the game-tying run in the following inning. Dibenedetto then punched in what proved to be the game-winning run the following play, scoring off a wild pitch from Belmont pitcher Brittanie Albright (Franklin, Tenn.).
APSU was then able to hold on, capturing the sweep on the day as the Lady Govs edged the Bruins, 2-1.
Jordan Daly (Humble, Tex.) led the Bruins' offense, recording a pair of hits on the contest.
Belmont (7-16) will return to action tomorrow with a Sunday doubleheader at Murray State starting at 1 p.m. (CST). Live stats and video will be available.
