NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team posted their first OVC win of the season as they beat Tennessee State 7-0 in a road match played indoors Tuesday at Hadley Park in Nashville.
Belmont took an early 1-0 lead as they captured two of the three doubles matches. After winning by default at number three, the freshman duo of Abbie Mather and Maddie Gilley won at number two over Adrianne Presley and Jade Daniels 8-2. The match at number one was not played since the doubles point had been determined.
In singles, the Bruins swept all six matches to clinch the 7-0 match win. At number one, freshman Laura Van Eeckhoudt beat Victoria Haynes 6-2, 6-2. Then at number two, senior Nikki Maciel outlasted Trinity Randolph in three sets: 2-6, 7-6, and 10-7. Sophomore Kendall Warren won at number three over Jade Daniels 6-1, 6-1. At number five, Abbie Mather swept Adrianne Presley 6-0, 6-0, while sophomore Ann Lauren Fiepke won at six over Attallah Eiland by the same 6-0, 6-0 score. The match at number six was won by Belmont by default.
The Bruins (3-6, 1-3) returns to the court on Saturday as they host Morehead State at 10:00am at Centennial Sportsplex.
