PADUCAH, Ky. – The Belmont men's tennis team advanced to their second straight OVC Final as they defeated Austin Peay 4-2 in an OVC semifinal match on Friday afternoon in Paducah, Kentucky.
The Bruins picked up the first point of the match as they won two of the three doubles matches. At number three, Hans Nardelli and Martijn Verberne beat James Mitchell and Manuel Montenegro 8-2. Then, BU clinched the point when Mauricio Antun and Marko Lovrinovic won at number one over Jasmin Ademovic and Aleksas Tverijonas 8-5.
In singles, BU took a 2-0 lead when Henrik Claesson won at number five over James Mitchell 6-1, 6-1. APSU tied the match 2-2 when they posted wins at positions six and four. However, the Bruins closed out the 4-2 victory as Mauricio Antun beat Jasmin Ademovic at number one 6-4, 6-4 an Marko Lovrinovic defeated Dimitar Ristovski 7-5, 6-2.
With the win, Belmont (11-9) heads to the championship match for the second consecutive season. They will face #1 seed Jacksonville State, who defeated Morehead State in their semifinal match. The championship match is set for 10:00am on Saturday in Paducah.
