Pitching Carries Jacksonville State past Belmont Saturday

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. -- Belmont Softball dropped a pair of contests Saturday afternoon to Jacksonville State as the Gamecocks shutout the Bruins on the day notching a 3-0 victory in the first contests and then coasted for an 11-0 victory in five innings in the day's nightcap.

Game 1: JSU 3, Belmont 0

Both teams got off to a slow start offensively in the first game of the day's doubleheader as neither team scored through the first five innings of play.

Jacksonville State broke the stalemate in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Gamecocks scored three runs off five hits in order to take the advantage, 3-0.

The sixth inning offense barrage from the Gamecocks was all Jacksonville State needed for the victory as BU's offense was stymied throughout the contest.

JSU's starting pitcher Tiffany Harbin (17-5) picked up the victory as the senior had a dominant performance from the mound. The right-hander allowed no runs off just two hits while striking out 14 Bruins.

Game 2: JSU 11, Belmont 0 (5 innings)

Another strong pitching performance from Jacksonville State (35-12, 19-4 OVC) carried the Gamecocks past the Bruins in the second game as Belmont only mustered three hits as JSU went on for the easy, 11-0 victory in five innings.

Starting JSU pitcher Logan Green (11-2) picked up the victory as the freshman struckout three Bruins on the contest.

Three different Bruins notched a hit for Belmont (12-31, 6-16 OVC).

The two teams will meet on Sunday for the series finale. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. CT. Live stats and audio will be available for the contest.
