MURRAY, Ky. – Belmont fell to Murray State 7-5 Sunday afternoon in the series finale at Johnny Reagan Field.
Belmont took a 2-0 lead in the third after Tyler Walsh led off the inning with a double to the gap in left center. He scored the first run off an MSU error before Jamie Ritchie's RBI groundout plated Alec Diamond. The 'Breds responded in the bottom half taking a 4-2 lead sparked by a two-run triple from Kollin Dowdy.
Matthew Kinney blasted a solo shot over the left field fence in the fourth to cut MSU's lead to one.
In the fifth, the Bruins tied the game at 4-4 behind a sacrifice fly from Ritchie, driving in Diamond.
Behind five hits in the bottom of the eighth, Murray State took a 7-4 lead. The Bruins wouldn't go quietly in the ninth as Matt Beaty and Ritchie both had singles. Nick Egli's RBI groundout drove in Beaty to make it a 7-5 game, but the 'Breds avoided the sweep.
Belmont returns home to Rose Park Tuesday, May 13 to host Middle Tennessee at 5:00pm.
