NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Belmont fell to Jacksonville State, 9-1 Friday night in the series opener.
The Gamecocks jumped out to a 6-0 lead and the Bruins were unable to overcome the deficit. Behind an RBI triple from Griff Gordon and an RBI double from Paschal Petrongolo, JSU took a 4-0 lead after the first.
JSU added two runs in the fourth behind Andrew Bishop's two-run homer.
Drake Byrd scored Belmont's only run behind a sacrifice fly from Matt Beaty in the bottom of the fifth.
In the eighth, the Gamecocks plated three runs to extend their lead, 9-1.
Belmont will continue the series with Jacksonville State tomorrow at 5:30pm.
