HIXSON, Tenn. – The Belmont men's tennis team posted their fourth win in five matches as they edged Chattanooga 4-3 in a matched played indoors at the Hixson Racquet Club in Hixson, Tennessee.
The Bruins took the early 1-0 lead as they won two of three doubles matches. At number one, seniors Mauricio Antun and Marko Lovrinovic beat Derrick Brown and Lucas Plesky 6-1, while at number two, junior Robin Demasse and sophomore Cedric Dujacquier defeated Luke Saunders and Nick Wingord 6-0. The third doubles match was not completed since the doubles point had been determined.
In singles, Belmont increased their lead to 2-0 when Lovrinovic beat Pavels Grigorjevs 6-1, 6-1. The Mocs fought back and tied the match at 2 when they captured wins at positions five and six. But the Bruins closed out the road victory as they garnered wins at numbers one and three. At number one, Antun defeated Wingord 7-6, 6-3, while at number three; Dujacquier beat Saunders in three sets: 6-3, 2-6, and 6-3.
Belmont (4-1) will be back in action this Friday as they play rival Lipscomb indoors at the Whitworth Racquet Club beginning at 7:00pm.
